A Little About Me

Hello! My name is Adam, and I wanted to tell you a little about myself and this blog’s purpose.

I’m a career soldier, and I have been serving since 2006. I started as a linguist and later became a helicopter pilot. Notice I waited to tell you I was a pilot until the 2nd sentence of this post. If you know other pilots, you’ll know why this is funny. Anyway, I’m a proud Colorado native. Most of my family calls it home, and I don’t get back there nearly as often as I’d like, much to my dismay.

I grew up in a small suburb near Denver with a career police officer and Vietnam-era Navy veteran for a father. My mother wore many hats, primary of those hats being the principal, teacher, and caretaker for my younger brother and me. Don’t worry. My brother and I grew up as well-adjusted and socialized homeschooled kids. This is probably what all the poorly adjusted and poorly socialized homeschooled kids also say. My little brother is crazy good with computers and does great work for a major cable provider.

Mom and Dad are huge contributors to my successes. I inherited a wicked work ethic from them and a tenacity to never give up. I come from a wonderfully supportive family on both sides. I can’t complain by any stretch of the imagination.

I decided to start this blog because I have found over the years that writing has been helpful to me in sorting out what think and feel. I think many things I experienced may help bridge some divides between people who have been in the military and those who haven’t. I also think this is a good forum to share my thoughts with family, friends, and everyone else who might help me refine my writing and thinking. I’m interested in the human experience and how that looks and feels for me and for others. I also wanted to do this blog post for a while because I think I have led a life that some people might find interesting. Perhaps it can become a forum to pass on life lessons to others or simply share my thoughts on events in my life and at work. I’ll probably talk about things I read too since I’m going to school for Philosophy and that always has a tendency to really make one think about their life and how to live it. Maybe people will enjoy this, maybe they won’t, but I want to put my story out there for others to see, and hopefully, we’ll grow through each other’s insights.

  1. Adam, what a wonderful thing to see you expand your horizons beyond that Police Explorer and young man I knew.

I won’t wax poetic of your many accomplishments. I will say, your parents should be proud of the job they did raising a patriotic and accomplished young man as yourself.

Don’t let this go to your head as you know, your, well an American male and subject to the vagarities of life…

  2. With your parentage, I’m not surprised you’re personable, brilliant, and adventurous!
Give Mr. Ornery my best. Couldn’t ask for a better patrol partner.
