A Little About Me(Updated)

Hello! My name is Adam, and I wanted to tell you a little about myself and this blog’s purpose.

I’m a husband to a beautiful wife, a father twice over with a wonderful boy and girl, and I am a career soldier serving since July of 2006. I started as a linguist and later became a helicopter pilot. Notice I waited until the second sentence of this post to tell you I was a pilot. That just means my ego is in check. If you know other pilots, you’ll know why this is funny.

I grew up in a small suburb near Denver with a career police officer and Vietnam-era Navy veteran for a father. My mother wore many hats, primarily as the principal, teacher, and caretaker for my younger brother and me. Don’t worry. My brother and I grew up as well-adjusted, well-socialized, homeschooled kids. This is probably what all the poorly adjusted and poorly socialized homeschooled kids also say.

My wife, my Mom, and my Dad are huge contributors to my successes. I inherited my parents’ wicked work ethic and tenacity to never give up. My wife is always there with encouragement, even when I need it most. I come from a wonderfully supportive family on both sides. I can’t complain by any stretch of the imagination.

I decided to start this blog because over the years, I have found that writing has helped me sort out what I think and feel. I think many of my experiences may help bridge divides between people who have served in the military and those who haven’t. I also think this is a good forum for sharing my thoughts with family, friends, and anyone else who might help me refine my writing and thinking. I’m interested in the human experience and how that looks and feels for me and for others. I also wanted to do this blog post for a while because I think I have led a life that some people might find interesting. Perhaps it can become a forum to pass on life lessons to others or simply share my thoughts on events in my life and at work. I’ll probably talk about things I read, too, since I’m going to school for Philosophy, and that always tends to really make one think about their life and how to live it. Maybe people will enjoy this; maybe they won’t, but I want to put my story out there for others to see, and hopefully we’ll grow from each other’s insights.

  1. Adam, what a wonderful thing to see you expand your horizons beyond that Police Explorer and young man I knew.

I won’t wax poetic of your many accomplishments. I will say, your parents should be proud of the job they did raising a patriotic and accomplished young man as yourself.

Don’t let this go to your head as you know, your, well an American male and subject to the vagarities of life…

  2. With your parentage, I’m not surprised you’re personable, brilliant, and adventurous!
Give Mr. Ornery my best. Couldn’t ask for a better patrol partner.
